Some speculate that the son of the deceased would repeat some teachings of his father and at the conclusion of that study period the Kaddish would be said. Eventually, the accent was put on the end of the study period, the Kaddish. We could, therefore, conclude, that study and prayer in memory of a deceased is more important than the Kaddish, but most people still feel that the way to honor the memory is by reciting Kaddish.
