Kansas Studies: Kansas History and Image

Whether free staters or exodusters, reformers or hayseeds, Auntie Em or Bob Dole, Kansans' histories have not always matched their image, but the two have definitely evolved together. This course explores key moments in Kansas history -- the "bleeding" territory period, early 20th-century progressivism and the Dust Bowl -- and shows how early depictions of Kansas in national media have changed as a consequence.
