Leavenworth, Washington, having a population of roughly 2,000, is located in Chelan County and is 117 miles east of Seattle. Incorporated in 1906, it was the headquarters for the Great North Railroad until the railroad relocated to Wenatchee in the 1920's, having a severe impact on Leavenworth's economy. After foundering for years, in an effort to revitalize the economy and inspired by the mock Danish community of Solvang in southern California, a committee was formed to transform Leavenworth into a mock Bavarian village. It was a huge success and draws tourists from all over. Disclaimer: The photos used in this slideshow are my own, but the music is the sole property of the producer(s) and artist(s).
