Lee Merrill Byrd wrote Riley's Fire about a little boy, a burn victim ("Riveting...astonishingly uplifting." One of the Top 10 Books of 2006! —People Magazine). When asked, Why and how she wanted to write this book, she wrote this essay to answer that question.
