A look into the frenzy of activity (gold rush) around the SUPER RARE Lego Minifigure Mr Gold 71001. I was contacted by a number of Lego youtubers asking me to look into the chances of finding a Mr Gold minifigure. I noticed YouTuber Racegrooves attempted to buy from e-bay a sealed full carton of series 10 minifigures but his carton was pre-opened. His video about this is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqDpy8_V59Y This had me purchase a full carton from a well known international retailer where I had previously purchased sealed Lego minifigure cartons before. To my surprise the carton which came out from the store room was pre-opened, someone had already looked through the box. Follow this article to read more. http://brickultra.com/lego-mr-gold-scandal-increases/ As retailers and their staff have gotten wind of the price these minifigures will sell for, staff are getting to search for them before going on the shop floor, One Toys R Us have a notice saying "warned the customers all of their packets have been checked for Mr. Gold before they made it to the floor." Another case is someone bought seven sealed boxes did not find Mr.Gold and returned all of them for a full refund. This is really bringing the worse out of people and retailers and Lego have really screwed up with this one. Then a look on e-bay for Mr Gold is a minefield of clone minifigures, some good quality most poor ( i'm not sure of the legality of such clones). Those who claim to have a real Mr Gold are sometimes asking over $1000 per figure but the auction gets no bids. Other sellers are kicking off around the $500 price and attracting bids. The real scam I see going on are those selling unopened bags and saying it is either Mr Gold or Medusa via the weight. The difference between these two minifigures would be obvious via a finger feel. E-bay sellers who have a sales pitch that there is a chance Mr Gold is in the bag they sell are scams, just like the so called unopened cartons. In the video I have some advice on how to approach the hunt for Mr Gold, remember it is only a small plastic toy which is at the moment totally overpriced. I also have a lovely special secret giveaway prize to the youtuber who was first to enter the Lego Star Wars Death Star giveaway between Beanmeister 22 and my channel. This lucky YouTuber will receive Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba's Podracers set 7962 which is now a much sort after retired product. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Anakin-Skywalker-and-Sebulba-s-Podracers-7962 Also there is a short rant about the Australian pricing of the Kre-O Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Construction Set. At Target Australia the kick off price was $129, in the USA it was only $50. http://www.hasbro.com/kre-o/en_US/shop/details.cfm?R=AF5A8FF0-5056-9047-F540-19122992473E:en_US Web Links: http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx?icmp=COUSFR23Minifigures http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/GoldenMinifigure/Default.aspx To see how many Mr Gold have been found...link below. http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/GoldenMinifigure/Map.aspx
