http://TerseFilms.com/ With their father away fighting in the Civil War, sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy grow up with their mother in somewhat reduced circumstances. In this scene Jo and Beth, who is ill, speak of the future. Nicholas J. Repino - Director Screenplay by Robin Swicord Elizabeth D. Linn - Jo March Christina R. Linn - Beth March Matthew A. Haas - Producer, Director of Photography Music by Thomas Newman Alfonso DiGirolamo III - Audio Production Nathan D. Linn - Production Assistant Brenda Pretko - Production Assistant Scene takes place in Beth's bedroom. Jo is kneeling by the bed with a top hat on and a carrot in her hand reading from Dickens. Beth is in bed (very sick), enjoying what Jo is reading to her. JO: Mr. Pickwick changed colour. 'Ah,' said Mr. Wardle. 'Well, that's important. There was nothing suspicious then, I suppose?' BETH: I feel stronger with you close by. JO: We're going to get you better yet. BETH: If God wants me with him there is none who will stop him (beat). I don't mind. I was never like the rest of you, making plans about the great things I'd do. I never saw myself as anything much. I'm not a great writer like you. JO: Oh beth, I'm not a great writer. BETH: But you will be (beat). Oh, Joe, I've missed you so (beat). Why does everyone want to go away? I love being home, but I don't like being left behind. Now I am the one going ahead. I am not afraid. I can be brave like you, but I know I shall be homesick for you - even in heaven. JO: Oh Beth no! I won't let you go. BETH: Oh my Jo. A gust of wind comes in the open window. Jo goes over to close it, and stairs out the window for a minute. When she turns back around, Beth has died.
