19 April 2001 | UEFA Cup | Semi-final, 2nd Leg Liverpool held a Barcelona team containing Luis Enrique, Pep Guardiola, Patrick Kluivert and Rivaldo to a goalless draw in the first leg of the 2001 UEFA Cup semi-final. Back at Anfield two weeks later, Gary McAllister's first-half penalty saw Liverpool through to the final with a narrow 1-0 victory. Barcelona, fielding a young Pepe Reina in goal due to injuries, had chances of their own, but the Reds held firm despite an agonising finale.
