Lynne Ramsay: Death Is Not The End

In Lynne Ramsay’s past feature films, including Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar, and We Need to Talk About Kevin, death defines both the story arc and the lives of the main characters. The dead live on through belongings and gifts, places and spaces, and lingering traumas, and events mostly transpire in death’s aftermath. Given that the main character (played by Joaquin Phoenix) is a killer-for-hire, how will the spectre of death, which is such a defining element of her oeuvre, haunt Ramsay’s newest release, the upcoming You Were Never Really Here?
