Violent clashes erupted in central Kiev on Tuesday after masked, torch-bearing Ukrainian nationalists attempted to march on the capital's Maidan square to honour protestors killed there last February. The march, by organisations including the radical Social Nationalist Assembly, turned violent when the groups' path was blocked by members of the so-called Maidan 'self-defence' units, who continue to occupy the square since the protests that ousted President Viktor Yanukovych. One of the activists attempting to enter the square, Dmytro Riznichenko, said before the start of the march that he wanted to show the dead protestors, known as the 'heavenly hundred' that they are still remembered.
