Media7: Series 8 Episode 22 (Part 1)

Since Media7 started in April 2008 we have delivered 207 shows covering a huge range of media related topics. We have explored issues and arguments in the newspaper, radio, television and film industries... and in addition have ranged over the diverse and eclectic controversies that exist in the world of comic books, video gaming, blogs, science and technological writing and reporting, Maori and Pacific affairs, foreign coverage on the UK, USA, Middle East and Afghanistan, national and local politics, the shortcomings of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, journalism and media training, comedy, filthy language on the media, censorship, the BSA, the ASA, SAPAD, the NX Film Commission, the Law Reform Commission recommendations on media law etc. etc. This week is little different as we ponder the absolute cataclysm across the Tasman which has rocked the newspaper industry to its core and might be the harbinger of things to come to NZ journalism. With Fairfax sending 1900 jobs down the road and News Limited moving to consolidate and axe a further 1000+ it is a sobering and frightening time for the media industry. But where there are challenges and casualties there will be new opportunities created by new technology and new means of delivering the news and stories to curious consumers. Joining Russell Brown this week are Tim Pankhurst former Fairfax Editor and Chief Executive of the Newspaper Publishers Association, Paul Brislen Chief Executive TUANZ. We will also show some of the lighter moments of Media7 and a little of the satire and mirth that we have been able to extract on our journey through the media landscape.
