Melanie Lomoff na Brave Festival (BRAVE TV - odc.7)

Trzy studia ciała Punktem wyjścia dzieła Melanie Lomoff są kształty nierozerwalnie związane z obrazem –tryptykiem Francisa Bacona. Jej taneczna interpretacja „ludzkich figur” według Bacona przywołuje na myśl skrzywienie, a tworząc postaci hybrydowe, jest również osadzona w kontekście typowo baconowskiej antropomorficznej obecności, zniekształcenia cielesnej powłoki. Nabiera to szczególnego znaczenia w pracy z puentami, w której jako cel Lomoff obiera sobie zbudowanie napięcia pomiędzy formą, skrępowaniem a zniekształceniem i zachwianiem równowagi. Użycie puent jest niezwykle ważne – stają się one przedłużeniem ciała, źródłem jego nieustannego skrępowania, a jednocześnie zmuszają je do adaptowania się, do zmiany kształtu, co w rezultacie prowadzi do wbudowania się owego skrępowania w konstrukcję ciała, a nawet w strukturę życia. Three studies of flesh The starting point of this work is the shapes inherent in Francis Bacon’s triptych paintings. Melanie Lomoff is interested in Bacon’s interpretation of “ human figures” within a language evoking distortion, creating Hybrid creatures, a kind of anthropomorphic presence, a distortion of the envelope of the flesh. The artists finds this particularly interesting as a starting point for her work on Pointe shoes, where she is interested in creating a tension between form, constraint and distortion, imbalance. The use of Pointes is particularly important in this work: Lomoff sees the Pointes as an extension of the body, a permanent source of constraint within it, which pushes the human body to adapt, to shift shape, to morph in order to ultimately incorporate the constraint within the constitution of the body itself, of life itself. "Unravel the mechanisms of the body with the constraint of an element on the feet to deepen the physical language". This piece works in another way evocative of a “study”: in a movement back and forth between a “written” choreography and through interactive research with a live sound performance by Josh Anio Grigg.
