The guys discuss why mimics may not be what they seem to a DM at first glance. Instead of being overlooked, they should be utilized to keep players on their toes. With crafted objects and natural formations possible enemies, the dungeon itself becomes an adversary. Pruitt interjects obligatory movie reference, in this case Aliens, to capture the mood of the seemingly empty environment. This leads to a discussion on dungeon design. When to throw the mimics at the party. Pruitt posits a new origin for the 10 ft. pole. The phrase “Bomb Squad D&D” is envoked. Jim wonders if dungeons deserve respect. Pruitt tries to get philosophical. Typical. Jim continues with uses on mimics in mega dungeons to change up rooms when players revisit them. Jim gets all natural with a dim scenario of party walking into a cave ambush. Piercers, Ropers, Dark Mantles joining to descend on a hapless party. But what should the party do? Kill all the monsters. Or retreat and keep that room for use against future enemies. A tangent ensues of picking the right dungeon for your campaign. Time for the Big Monster Breakdown! Starting with mimics, they’re sticky but could use a little help hanging on. Think about boosting that athletics check. Cloakers have the mirror image your wizard should have, and they can cause you to hit your allies if they grab ahold. On to the natural “mimics” Piercers are the dodo birds. Ropers can challenge a party, especially with the action economy. The use of small natural hindrances like mushrooms, and shriekers to help create a rave of death. RP out those hallucinations. Dark Mantles are also there. They can cast darkness. The guys were really running out of things to say, so Jim brings up the “tree stump bunny lure monster”, called the ‘ Wolf in sheeps clothes’. Pruitt’s mind is blown. In summary, mimics were created to shake up the game for players who had seen it all. -Stinger- The guys worry their show is too short. It happens to every show! Trav recalls a character from a Final Fantasy game. Jim counters with dopplegangers. We tease the next few shows. And talk about stretching. Time Codes: (0:13) Attack!
