Mising, a tribe belonging to the state of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, India, is the second largest ethnic group in the state of Assam. They are the largest group among the Tani ethnic people, who claimed as descendants of mythical ancestor known as AboTani. History suggests that the Misings migrated from the hills in the early 13th century and settled in the plains of Brahmaputra valley. With an estimated population of they are settled in the upper bank of river Brahmaputra in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Golaghat, Tinsukia and Sonitpur and in few parts of East Siang, Lower Dibang and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The Misings are a riparian community and
depend on agriculture as a primary means of livelihood. The tribe is culturally rich with various traditional practices and customs.
