Model helicopter used as OUTBOARD MOTOR for boat!?!!!

A T-Rex 600 model helicopter is used as an outboard motor for a boat. The whole action was filmed in a well-known Turkish yacht marina. Technically it was much more difficult than one might think: not only did the highly corrosive sea water limit the time for the experiment (the helicopter's BEC power system was first to die), but we had to learn how to rev up the tail rotor as slowly as possible. Soft start of the ESC was not a help but a problem: when raising the stick on the Tx nothing happens at first - and then starts even more powerfully. Consider that the high load under water will easily damage the drive train in overload situations. To better deal with this problem we chose a belt drive instead of a torque tube (wise decision as it turned out); you can hear the kkkkkrrrrrrrrchhhttt several times - would have killed the gears every time had we used a torque tube. Plastic tail blades further helped. And finally, when out in the "open water" failsafe kicked in unexpectedly. Rx was too close to the water and reflections obviously deteriorated the radio connection. Nonetheless a very cool experiment of which most people had thought it wasn't possible.
