"Money in the Game" -- Carolyn Wonderland t the Don't Mess With Texas Women Rally, Austin, TX

Austin, TX (see lyrics below) On March 13, 2011, right in the middle of SXSW, hundreds -- women and men, girls and boys -- gathered in the TxDOT parking lot just across the street from the Capitol for the final stop of Women's Health Express Bus Tour, protesting Texas' defunding of Planned Parenthood. The Medicaid Women's Health Program (WHP), which serves about 130,000 low-income women in the state, is also in danger -- many of the WHP services are provided by Planned Parenthood clinics across the state. The rally featured several speakers, including Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards and state Rep. Dawnna Dukes, but before all the speeches, in golden late afternoon sunshine, Carolyn Wonderland, joined by her band, keyboardist Cole El-Saleh and drummer Rob Hooper, gathered close together on the riser and played a song Carolyn wrote for the occasion. It's called "Money in the Game." Carolyn and the boys (well, they are definitely men, but you know what I mean) had some SXSW things immediately before and after the rally, but they left a deep impression.
