A beautiful Bengal Tiger takes a brief rest after a long night of hunting in order to bask in the first rays of morning light. Shadows are quickly disappearing as can be seen on the tiger's body and front paw gently resting on a lichen covered stone. Lush jungle background can be seen in the background. This is an extremely fine example of first rate scrimshaw and stipple work. Adams at his best. Only a scant handful working today can match this quality. If you want to know what a first rate work looks like, study this one. An added touch is the light coming into the title plate, from right to left, just as in the scrimshaw portrait.
