What's going on guys Blake Hawthorn it's his turf. Today we're gonna be talking about mulch how you can add it to your services and also how profitable it can actually be. So before we actually talk about how profitable mulch will be let's talk about the basics on how you could get into adding mulch to your existing services if you're not providing it already. Mulch is super simple the thing you need to understand is that it's all based on square footage. If you buy in bulk as we do you need to know that one yard covers 100 square feet at two to three inches thick. They say three inches thick but also like we quite get that sometimes. And so what you want to do is to get that square footage you just need to take the length times the width. So, on this flower bed here I've just pulled from edge to edge, and I would pull from edge to edge that way. I multiply those together whoever it came out to, I would then divide it by 100, and that would be how many yards of mulch I would need for that bed. I'll be honest, over the years with as much mulch as I've done, I don't necessarily pull measurements anymore. I can literally visualize kind of 10' by 10' squares and saw just kind of count them out, and I'll know that this bed here is going to take two and a half to three yards a mulch, that's just based on breaking it up into 10 foot increments knowing that it's roughly about 10 foot wide. Another thing when you're measuring for mulch Be sure and round up to the nearest half or whole, I like rounding up to the nearest whole. If I have a little bit of most leftover, great allows me to thicken it in some areas, or maybe there's a tree ring in the yard that I can go ahead and make do things like that. Because if I had you know some leftover I can pull the rock and gravel back away from this crape myrtle, and I can install a nice little tree ring around that had an accent it for no additional cost to the customer. The great thing about mulch is that it really doesn't take a whole lot to get into it so if you do buy in bulk like I do you literally need a pitchfork and a wheelbarrow That's it, you can do it with five gallon buckets like Kevin a Fall River, I just don't suggest it, but you see that video here. It's super simple, it's easy to get into the major thing that you need to know is bed prep though. So, any job that you come in and you do you're going to have your bed prep your material cost, your delivery and your labor. So, when you come in here you want to weed the beds and that's not just like, you know, we add me on data leaving them. And so what I like to do is we'll actually kind of go through and till the flower bed get those weeds and stuff up by the roots, get those pulled out, get everything hand weeded. If a customer doesn't want to pay for that. The next thing that I will do is I will scalp it with a weed eater, and I'll spray it with total kill. We are careful around the plants but this just allows us to kill the weeds off, and then put nice fresh mulch over it. So the weeds don't grow back up the next week. Also, another great thing about mulch is that it's sold in the bag so you can literally buy it by the bag and install mulch, that way. No need for a wheelbarrow. No need for a pitchfork.
