An "old" condo to a real estate agent is probably 25-30 years old, but to a young 20-something condo buyer, an old condo is likely anything built before this decade! Yes, it's true, I often have buyers reject a 2009 condo and say, "I don't want to live in an old building." "Old" is a relative term. A buddy of mine asked me why I have an "old" Taylor Made driver, last week, and for you golfers out there - I have the R7, which was replaced by the R9, then R11, then SLDR. So my driver is 4-5 years old, and yet to some people, that's "old," and should be upgraded. Just what is an "old" condo? In my opinion, anything built in the 1980's is, in fact, "old," and anything in the 1990's is certainly "older." In today's hyper-sensitive real estate market, a large majority of my condo buyers wouldn't think of purchasing something built in the 1990's, let alone the 80's. I'm tempted to say that older condos typically don't sell very well, but that would be a sweeping generalization. If a condo is well-priced in this market, there's always a buyer. Today, we'll look at some of the oldest condominiums in the downtown core, and we'll do it to a sweeping cast of 80's musical figures.
