this song title, it’s been rattling around my mind since the track list was released,
flashing every so often, nudging my thoughts, to just stop, to see, think it through
there’s a message there to be sure
neons, messengers
of noisy streets in the dark,
crowds hurrying along,
cars
swishing by toward desperate destinations
neon light burning through the darkness,
silently screaming, demanding
I’m Here!
Pay Attention!
Notice Me!
Don’t
Pass Me By!
vaporous cries
we can see
gravestones
aligned at attention, these
stoic, solid, sentinels of
cold granite
carved with an eternal
message
name….date….prayer hands
blessed
a visible whisper from the grave
silently pleading
Remember me!
I was here.
neon gravestones
stand among the sea of all
who are and have been
rows and rows of
cold, gray, granite plead
to not be forgotten
lost amidst the countless other
whisper-screamed
fears
of ceasing
to exist
neon glow, a false warmth
lies of importance
lighting a last
desperate attempt
to prove
significance, noteworthiness
singularly memorable,
until
another buzz of neon
switching on,
the flicker of
cold, electric light
the cry of
another soul
terrified they’ll
Disappear
