Content:
Recently I just I added fenugreek seeds to my diet after hearing about a study on fenugreek through nutritionfacts.org, highly recommend that website by the way, where researchers took 49 weight lifters and split in two groups: one group got an extract of fenugreek and the other group a placebo. Then did 8 week weightlifting program.
What they found was that the fenugreek group increased their bench press by 15 lbs and 100 lbs on their leg press AND lowered their body fat by 6 times compared to the placebo group. This was incredible improvement.
Other studies:
-Fenugreek has shown to help increase insulin sensitivity meaning helps to get sugar out of the blood and into the cells, including muscles cells. Ronnie Coleman does this.
-Fenugreek helps to prevent alcohol poisoning in obese mice by perhaps reducing triglycerides in the liver
-Fenugreek helped rats swim longer after 4 months, which the researchers think is from increase of fatty acid usage.
-After 4 weeks on a chemical called galactomannan isolated from fenugreeks was effective as increase muscle as testosterone treatment.
-Another study rats on another isolated substance that is a steroid in fenugreek called sapognin diogenin increased muscle mass compared to a placebo group
-Fenugreek also, decreases total, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and increase HDL...which is good for the heart.
- Men aged 25 to 52 who took a fenugreek extract twice daily for six weeks scored 25% higher on tests gauging libido levels than those who took a placebo
-Fenugreek increases breast milk
-Fenugreek has shown to help prevent cancer.
So what I did:
I put 1 tablespoon of grounded up fenugreek in my smoothie every day. Then I put a handful of fenugreek sprouts in my salad.
I probably went through over 3 lbs worth of fenugreek.
The only side effect was that for the first few weeks I had a maple like smell in my urine and in my sweat, but it was very mild.
Which is like the seeds itself which taste like a bitter maple syrup taste.
And did my normal workout routine.
And I did this for over 3 months.
What I found out I didn't see any major change especially not as dramatic as going up 100 lbs on your leg press.
Why didn't work for me?
-I didn't take the extract, which could eq. to a couple pounds of fenugreek
-Maybe I need to eat more of it.
-I'm already get these special substance in my diet
However, if you want to try out and report me on how it goes that would be awesome.
So, out this is fruit and strength....make sure to eat your fruit and veggies and lift as much as you can.
