Episode 1 of X Girls The reason we began the X-Girls Series by sharing our stories is that we believe in the power of story and that your personal story matters. Story does many things. Your story tells the truth. No one can argue with your story. It is like a fingerprint, it uniquely identifies you, and it cannot be contradicted. Beyond that, getting in touch with your story helps you to see where God was within your story. In the story of the woman at the well in John 4, Jesus didn’t just tell the woman to believe in Him, He offered her living water. He knew where her story had led her and knew what she was thirsting for. The details of her story were not hidden from Him (that she had had five husbands and the man she was currently with she was not married to), and He didn’t judge her. He was letting her know that He wanted to write with her the final pages of her story, to answer her questions, heal the wounds of her past, and fulfill her destiny, giving her a future and a hope. Telling your story allows what’s been broken to be fixed. “You can’t heal a wound by saying its not there.” (Jeremiah 6:14 TLB) We were meant to share our selves and our stories with the safe people around us. Through each other we receive love, healing and truth and can become the conquerors of our own stories. Your story is a work in progress, it identifies you, but it does not define you. NO matter what your story has been up until this point, God can use it to infuse purpose in your future. You can’t change what has happened in your life up to now… but you can decide where you will go from here. The woman that met Jesus at the well used her story to lead many more in her town to Jesus. First, Jesus used her story to set her free, and then she used it to set others free. God will never waste a hurt. The very things you may have been hiding and running from are the sort of things that God will use. You were destined to impact the lives of others around you. Your story tells the truth that cannot be denied, the fingerprint that cannot be contradicted. Who will you impact? Back in the very early 1950’s there were articles in sports magazines explaining why runners could never cover a mile in less than four minutes. Scientists and sportswriters explained how it was physically impossible. Nevertheless, in 1954, Roger Bannister rendered all such claims erroneous when he ran the mile race in less than four minutes. Once runners learned that the formidable mental barrier had been overcome, others also ran the mile in less than four minutes. Nowadays, it is not unusual for a well-trained, championship-caliber, high school athlete to record a sub-four minute mile. But Roger Bannister was there first, conquering both the physical and psychological barriers that were impeding previous runners. People needed to hear this story to overcome the mental barriers that kept them from achieving their goals. People need to hear your story so they know it can be done.
