UPDATE 1/24/2018: When I first made this video, YES i was new to owning goats and at the time my farm was in a city in the San Francisco Bay area. I purchased goats because I had 2 acres of poison oak that cost me $1500 a year to deal with before the I owned goats. I enjoyed the farm life so much I moved from Woodside to a large Ranch comprised of a 30 acre non irrigated Walnut Orchard that is completely Off Grid in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. I am now almost two hours away from a vet so driving there to have this done would be time consuming and costly. I've read through a few of the comments below and this method is not only the most cost effective, but is the most humane method of the three options available of neutering a goat (not using a knife to slice open the balls then cut off and stitch back and also not rubber banding the balls so they can slowly ROT off). Yes the goat is in pain while I am clamping the skin but I have never broke skin nor have ever had any infections. Since this video I have neutered 20 more bucklings using this method with no issues. They literally walk funny as they run back to their mother for milk, then they are back with the herd acting normal all within 15 minutes. AND I posted a link to the website that I first found the burdizzo info on to share this source with others. The owner of that site has practiced both western and herbal methods of raising goats and she found that natural herbal worming has the best outcomes. I've never contacted the owner of that site let alone received any compensation for referring her. I also do not vaccinate my goats, nor do I worm them. I have fecal tests done yearly and I have not needed to worm them, and if I did I would use an herbal option. We also raise lambs and pigs and do the same for them. Civilizations have utilized plant medicine for thousands of years so to refer to herbs as "garbage" is ludicrous. I post informative stories daily on my instagram regarding everyday farm life activities. My instagram account is SURVIVALCHICK and my new farm is KINGS HILL RANCH. END OF UPDATE After researching all possible methods for neutering my buckling, I decided to go with the Burdizzo method based on the recommendation from the https://www.fiascofarm.com/goats/buck-wether-info.htm website. I was nervous during my first attempt and this could be the reason I incorrectly clamped my goat Prince's 2nd spermicidal cord and failed. Three weeks after the first attempt I noticed only one ball shrinking and knew I would have to repeat the procedure. I neutered the first time at exactly 8 weeks and with one sac still left at 11 weeks I hope none of my Doe's are pregnant. I followed the directions provided by Fias Co Farm but I wish I was able to find a good video depicting this method on goats. Since I couldn't find one video using the Burdizzo neutering method on miniature goats I decided to post this one.
