This is Auschwitz Concentration Camp in Poland. It was a bit overwhelming to see the expanse of land that was used as the concentration camp. It is cruel twist of fate that the place that used to be the Polish army barracks later became the Nazi German concentration camp. Over 1.1 million Jews perished at this place. I still cannot understand or comprehend the reason behind this violence. The occasional sharp intake of breath was intense when shown the gas chambers. There is a mountain of hair at this place and a lot of shoes. Shoes that belonged to people who will never wear them again. I saw people crying behind me just after visiting this place. I do not blame them; this is brutal and inhumane. Everything felt so bleak and dreary. Truly there are things that time cannot heal.
