The party atmosphere was turned up a notch in Rio De Janeiro on Thursday, the eve of the official start of Brazil's annual carnival season. At one street, or block, party, a dozen topless women covered in bodypaint danced the night away among a crowd of about 600 revellers. The muse of the bloc party said there was a serious message behind the group's colourful decorations. Ana Paula Moreira criticised Brazilian culture, which allows women to show their bodies during the carnival, but doesn't permit them to sun-bathe topless on the beach Meanwhile, just around the corner from the bloc party, anti-government demonstrators staged a celebration of their own. The Occupy Carnival revellers danced to celebrate the imminent departure of Rio De Janeiro's unpopular governor, Sergio Cabral. The governor announced he will be leaving office in April to run in the October 2014 elections. Cabral came in for heavy criticism during the June 2013 anti-government demonstrations, staged to protest the government's spending on the World Cup. euronews: the most watched news channel in Europe Subscribe! http://eurone.ws/10ZCK4a euronews is available in 14 languages: http://eurone.ws/17moBCU In English: Website: http://www.euronews.com/news Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/euronews Twitter: http://twitter.com/euronews Google+: http://google.com/+euronews VKontakte: http://vk.com/en.euronews
