New York, March 3 -- Today's rally was prompted by the ban, now a year old, on holding organizing meetings in support of Palestinian rights at the LGBT(Q) Center at 208 West 13th Street, Greenwich Village. The ban, first placed by the Center's board of directors against Siegebusters, an anti-Israeli apartheid group, was subsequently extended to QAIA, Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, who initiated today's action with the support of 18 other groups, several of them Jewish. As well as barring meetings, the board has placed a "moratorium" on any discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or of Palestinian rights within the premises, on the grounds that the subject is too controversial.
