This is a beautiful sloka shared by the seers where the emphasis is given on 'togetherness'. When two beings are together many layers contradict and many layers complement and therefore to bring balance both needs to bring harmony with each other by understanding the contradicting layers and complementing layers. Here two beings can be teacher and student, husband and with, friends, relatives, strangers... any two beings whether they have any relationship or not yet this sloka is beautiful designed to help two consciousnesses to help each other to expand. The sloka begins with Om. One simple truth about Om is that is a pure sound energy which is a symbol of the Ultimate Reality or Brahm or The Supreme whatever you may call. Om is not at all limited to any religion nevertheless few religions have adopted it. Even this sloka is not at all directly connected with any religion nevertheless religions have used it at various places to give various perceptions about the religion. This sloka "Om Sahana Vavatu" is one of the finest sloka which invokes togetherness and thats why it begins with the term Sah meaning together... both of us together... like wise... ॐ सह नाववतु । सह नौ भुनक्तु । सह वीर्यं करवावहै । तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै । ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥ Om Saha Nau-Avatu | Saha Nau Bhunaktu | Saha Viiryam Karavaavahai | Tejasvi Nau-Adhiitam-Astu Maa Vidvissaavahai | Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih || Meaning: 1: Om, God/Divine/Almighty/Supreme (whatever you may call THAT) Protect us Both (the Teacher and the Student, Learner and Learned, Ying and Yang, Shiv and Shakti, Day and Night), 2: Nourish us Both, 3: We Work Together with Energy and Vigour, 4: Our learning and being and understanding and studying be Enlightening and not give rise to Hostility, and create greater harmony with each other... 5: Om, Peace, Peace, Peace.
