Operation lipedema -- The story of Silke B. Episode 2: Consultation with Dr. Manuel Cornely

A lipedema operation could change Silke's life. But what about the risks? For more than 14 years the young woman has been suffering from heavy legs. Up till now she has undergone only con-servative treatment while the opeational method promises cure. Before she takes a definitive de-cision she wants to know exactly what the treatment means for her. In a consultation with Dr. Manuel Cornely she is advised in detail. The dermatologist and lymphologist would operate her according to the method of lymphological liposuction which carefully protects the lymphatic ves-sels. There would be three operations altogether, the legs to be operated on the outsides, then the arms and finally the legs on the insides, with an interval of several weeks between the individual operations. Inbetween lymphatic drainage and compression stockings would be applied. Dr. Cor-nely also talks about the pain arising directly after the operation: blood effusions and sore muscles. Though the young woman feels confident about the operations when leaving the prac-tice, Dr. Cornely insists that she takes her time in deciding on them. How will Silke decide after thinking everything over?
