Opus magnum or Great Work is an alchemical term for the process of creating the so-called philosopher's stone, attributed to ancient chemical processes that would allow the transformation of lead into gold. Alchemy as a proto-science, also sought to cure all diseases and discover the source of eternal youth. In its essence, Alchemy would be a symbolic philosophical school that takes the resource of allegory to establish its objectives. Therefore, to transform lead into gold means to evolve the human being from its first stage, natural, to another spiritually superior through the teachings left by Masters or Gods superior in the past.
In a hermetic way, the alchemical treatises give instructions to obtain the greatest wisdom that a human being can achieve, being the spiritual understanding among human beings some of its most important points for the final transmutation.
My visual work tries to show these ancient postulates through an allegorical and metaphorical treatment, using animation as a method of self-interpretation.
"At the beginning we unite, then we corrupt, we dissolve what has been corrupted, we purify what has been dissolved, we gather what has been purified and we solidify it. In this way man and woman become one. "
(brief treatise on the Philosopher's Stone, 1778)
