"ORUNMILA" Baba IFA; The Gods of Divination ORUNMILA bara Agboniregun: the gods of divination is one of the most reverend deity in Yoruba land intact its been referred to as the all knowing god of knowledge. All other deity (gods) relay of him for instructions in other to sustain their existence. ORUNMILA, baba ifa exist with other gods during his lifetime. His lieutenant are Osanyin, gods of medicine and ifa, gods of knowledge who lived and died before ORUNMILA. ORUNMILA was believe to have descended from heaven as one of the deity (orisa) into the land of ife Oodaye with Oduduwa the surface of the earth was covered by waters, Oduduwa came with a giant cock believe to have five legs and a pound of sand in which he put on the surface of the earth and command the cock to spread the sand in other to have a dry land which he named ile ife, Obatala, gods of creation was the first orisa assigned by Olodumare to carry out this duty but due to his drunk act, the duties was reassign to ORUNMILA. After the creation of ife oodaye ORUNMILA lived in a town called oke igeti and that is why is been referred to as okunirin kukuru oke igeti (meaning short man of igeti). ORUNMILA had 8 children during his life time, which are Alara, Ajero, Owaragan aga, Oloyemoyin, Oritagi-olele, Elejelu-mope, Amukanlode-oyan and Olowo. ""ORUNMILA move to a town called Otu ife there he had another child called Amukanlode oyan. Its was in Otu ife that ORUNMILA end his journey by ascending back into heaven and vow never to return back into this world due to the rebellious and disrespectful act spear headed by his last born olowo during one of his yearly worship festival. ORUNMILA send emissary to all his children who have become kings in Yoruba land to come and worship with him, hereby pay homage to him (their father) and gave demand account of their stewardship to the people; they all come and do according to tradition but alas when it get to the time of olowo his last born, he confronted his father by telling it to his face that he Olowo cannot pay homage to ORUNMILA because ORUNMILA is a king, he Olowo his a king as well. "Orunmila put on a royal bead, he Olowo put on a royal beads" "Orunmila has a royal horse tail, he has royal horsetail" "Orunmila feet is of royal, Olowos' feet is royal" "Sit on Orunmila's head a royal crown, on his own head too is a royal crown" so why should a king bow for a king, No royal head is more superior to another. Olowo words vexed and hurt ORUNMILA to his marrow that he vow never to see Olowo again than stripe him of his royalty he ascended into heaven ever since the world as been living in darkness.
