Please Smoke

Here’s an awful 2000 PIF from the Anti-Smoking Society. Why’s it awful? Well, probably because it’s the most mean-spirited PIF I’ve ever seen. Basically, it goes like this: a woman isn’t satisfied because her boyfriend or husband or whatever prematurely ejaculates, so she encourages him to smoke so he’ll get cancer and die. Aww, look at that smug grin. It’s not like you’re the scum of the earth or anything. What the hell? The PIF literally tells you to encourage other people to take up smoking, just because you don’t like them. This PIF doesn’t even establish that these two people hate each other. She doesn’t hate him - she’s just annoyed because he couldn’t keep it up for more than five minutes. It doesn’t even make any sense. “Here, dear - have a smoke. I won’t miss you when you’re dying in a hospital bed next year. Have fun!” It's not often a PIF affects me this much, but this one just really annoyed me. Could you imagine the NHS producing a PIF like this today? There would be complaints flying through their letterbox. It’s sheer stupidity that they made this. I can’t believe something so mean-spirited could even be produced. I hate this PIF. It’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Even THINK! PIFs, as bad as they are, are at least well meaning. (Yes, I said that.) This one just tries to turn you into an asshole. Screw these guys.
