Porsche Macan Turbo - On the Drive.

Difficult to know where to start with the Porsche Turbo Macan. I shall therefore begin with a grand statement. At ss8000cars we believe this is the best all-round automobile made today. The Porsche is not a 'cheap' car so I guess some points should be deducted but I know of no other car that combines an elevated driving position with true sports car performance combined with a luxury ride and capable of taking five should the need arise. And I do feel qualified to comment on it's sporting prowess, given we have a Ferrari Speciale and a Porsche GT4 in the stable, arguably two of the finest handling cars of all time. And having come out of one of these you do not feel short-changed when you are driving the Turbo Macan hard. This is perhaps the highest praise the car can receive. Now let us not kid ourselves the previous two mentioned cars are track cars and the Turbo Macan clearly is not, the centre of gravity is too high but the Turbo does handle like it has no right to handle and it is a decent size, that is not too big so can be threaded down a country lane deftly and without worrying unduly about meeting other cars. You cannot say that of a Range Rover Sport or even another car in our stable the Mercedes S500 AMG Coupe. These are big cars and however fast they are in a straight line care has to be taken in the corners. The Macan lists at £62,540 which sounds at first reasonable, that is until you add in the cost of the various options which most owners will specify. Most Turbo Macans will therefore be 70K plus. I would still argue that this represents good value for money. The Range Rover SVR comes in at more than 100K and although it is bigger all round, positive point, it is bigger all round, negative point. Having driven both I should take the Turbo Macan every time. Despite it's extra power, 550hp versus 400hp, the Range Rover wouldn't see which way the Turbo Macan went except perhaps on open A roads. The interior of the Turbo Macan to my eyes is a triumph if you are a fan of aircraft style centre consoles. I am! It looks a little fussy at first but soon you become accustomed to the layout and can start to appreciate the brilliant ergonomics the cabin offers. I like the standard sports seats which are 18 way adjustable, I like to be able to pull up the Sat Nav from the centre console onto the right dial of the three dials positioned in front of the driver and I especially like the PDK twin clutch transmission which is incredibly fast when swapping cogs. The quality of the materials and the general fit and finish on the car are first rate as in all Porsches these days. I love the way that if you are driving the Porsche 911 Turbo S at £140,852 the quality and fitment here is identical to the 'cheapest' model, the Cayman, at £39,264. In conclusion I should say that if one could only have one car and that car had to perform a number of disparate functions from shooting round country lanes to taking the dogs to the woods, to delivering the kids to school to a trip to Le Mans for the 24 hour race, then for me it would have to be the Turbo Macan. It offers good luggage space, a loading capacity of 500litres in fact, takes four/ five people in relative comfort, covers the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds and only runs out at 165mph where allowed. Unbelievable when you stop to think about it.
