Round table talks STORYLINE: Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio met his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, in Beijing on Wednesday. After a welcoming ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People, the two presidents held formal talks, discussing how to promote bilateral relationships, especially economic and trade relations. Sampaio arrived on Tuesday evening for a seven-day state visit, along with the largest trade delegation of his two-term presidency, in an effort to expand business with the world''''s fastest growing economy. More than 100 businessmen are accompanying Sampaio, along with Economy Minister Alvaro Barreto and Foreign Minister Antonio Monteiro, on the visit, which will include stops in Shanghai and Macau, a former Portuguese colony which transferred to Chinese rule five years ago. Only about a dozen Portuguese companies currently have operations in China, and Portugal accounts for only a fraction of Chinese trade with the European Union.
