PRECIOUS WILSON Hold On I'm Coming FABMIX VIDEO

This is my re-editing of two clips of former Eruption singer Precious Wilson's disco treatment of the Sam & Dave classic 'Hold On I'm Coming'. The audio is the 'fabulous' Fab Mix which extends the track beyond both its 7 and 12 inch versions. This post times with the 40th anniversary of Eruption's entry into the Australian Top 100 with their follow up the #1 smash 'I Can't Stand The Rain' 18 months before. 'One Way Ticket' entered our chart on 11th June 1979 and would rise to a national position of #10 and spent 6 months in the chart. Precious Wilson left Eruption after recording their 2nd album, but with Producer Frank Farian at the helm of this solo track, you would be forgiven if you thought it was Eruption as the sound is pretty similar. 'Hold On I'm Coming' was issued as a single in August of the same year but was only a hit in the Netherlands. It came to me thanks to a Various Artists Compilation called 'Summer Gold' which was issued in early 1980 and featured hits by Abba, Amii Stewart, Village People and The Three Degrees. I love the concept of shooting a music video using a Zebra and then dressing up the performer in stripes! Precious Wilson's styling looks a lot like that of 'Peaches' in the duo Peaches & Herb as well as Amii Stewart. As Eruption's hits came first, it may well be that the other two were copying the very beautiful Precious Wilson. It was certainly the look in that final year of the disco craze. I've always loved the song and have several other versions of it in my collection. For me this is one cover of a classic that works as the original is certainly a soul and R&B composition and the driving beat here gives it its compelling and danceable vibe. Precious went on to record many tracks in the ensuing decades with mixed success across Europe mostly.
