Honey! I'll be ready in a minute!
(some time later)
Here I am!
Sweetheart, I've been waiting for you for 40 minutes already! How come your "minute" is thaaaaaat long?
Grammar cookie for today is
✅the Present Perfect Continuous tense (e.g. have/has been waiting)
Now, I'll explain it to you like you are a four-year-old?
In our previous posts #grammarcookie we found out that
?Simple tenses = "facts, routines"
?Continous tenses ="process"
?Perfect tenses = "result, experience"
?Perfect Continuous tenses= "long"
✅Perfect Continuous tense combines result+process.
‼️If you have already got something, and it took you LONG, but you are still on your way to get more!‼️
?Example: I have been learning Chinese for two years. (I already speak and understand Chinese, but still want more!)
Magic formula for the Present Continous Tense :
1. Present Perfect = have/has (for he/she/it)+been (V3 of "to be")
2. Continuous= V+ing (waiting/doing/eating)
?Example: Oh, this cake is huge! We've been eating it for half an hour already and haven't finished even a half of it!
?Example: Mary has been dating this guy for a year already. He must be deaf!
How can you "mark" a "long" experience:
✅Your friends here are:
"Markers":
✏️ for, since
?Example: He has been drinking beer for 5 minutes already.
?We have been living here since 2001.
✏️the whole (morning, lesson, day), all my life, all the morning.
?Example: I have been cleaning my room all the morning.
Easy, huh??
