When it comes to running in races, fatigue and a sense of accomplishment aren’t the only things you leave the finish line with. Race T-shirts are a nice memento, but can begin to pile up, especially if you’re an avid runner. Hold on to that race memory and give these tees new life by repurposing them into a fashionable tote bag. Follow along with this tote bag DIY tutorial from DICK’S Sporting Goods.
MATERIALS NEEDED
• Old race tee
• Fabric marker
• Scissors/fabric cutter
• Cutting pad (if using a fabric cutter)
• Ruler
• Circular stencil
• Sewing pins
• Sewing machine
• Thread
INSTRUCTIONS
(0:05) Cut the shirt about six inches above the bottom seam to make the tote bottom.
(0:14) Cut the sleeves along their original seam to make your tote bag straps.
(0:24) Cut the neck hole leaving two to three inches on each side for your strap thickness. You can use a circular stencil as a guide.
(0:34) Flip the t-shirt inside out and pin the bottom of the shirt. Sew the bottom seam to close the tote bottom. Use a zigzag stitch for added durability.
