"Oooh you models, you never spend your money on anything sensible. I expect you buy loads of designer handbags and won't have anything to show for it in two years when your career's over" "Well, possibly, bro. On the other hand, possibly we'll all have collections of houses rather than handbags, which we quietly got on with paying for while we were pretending to tolerate your antiquated, sexist opinions about 'glamour girls' at group shoots". I never expected to be in modelling for long enough to call it a career. Not cos I didn't love it (I did, and do) but because I didn't know there'd be an opportunity to do so. I began modelling at 25, and I'm 42 now, with no signs of my career slowing down yet. But I, like many models, not believing that I'd be lucky enough to do this in the long term, took a while to figure out what to do with the money I was making. I kept expecting it to stop, so it didn't feel like 'real' money that I could use to plan for my future. I saved, but I wasn't sure what I was saving *for*. I'd seen plenty of people burned by pension schemes, & I couldn't think of an alternative. Then in 2016, I started reading about property investment. I'd had good experiences with renting out my London flat, and I started wondering about building a portfolio of properties, to give me a retirement income. And that's what I've done, in my typically obsessive fashion. I'm still in the middle of doing it actually - I own 3 properties and am about to buy my 4th and 5th in 2020. And when I meet younger, newer models, I always want to help them to plan for their futures too. So I made this video about how I've gone about it, in case it's something you might like to try. You don't have to be a model, it works for everyone. But honestly, having lots of hair to swish around during negotiations *is* quite an advantage. I always wear black leather dresses and high-heeled boots for being a property investor. I recommend doing the same. NB: I'm obviously not a qualified financial advisor; as previously discussed, I'm a BDSM model, which isn't exactly the same thing, despite all evidence to the contrary. I'm sharing my personal finance journey in the hope that it might inspire you, but if you *actually* want to become a professional property investor, you'll need to do your own research. This is where I started, and I recommend all these links and services wholeheartedly. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Property-Investment-Beginners-Geek-guide/dp/1484116275/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3P5Q4J3TBQ307&keywords=property+investment+for+beginners&qid=1578998717&sprefix=Property+Inv%2Caps%2C337&sr=8-1 https://propertyhub.net/ https://propertyhub.net/podcast/ https://www.propertygeek.net/
