Putting the "art" back into "ART": Sylvana Barrett at TEDxCulverCity

Semi precious stones ground finely into powders, colorful rare earths, gossamer leaves of hammered gold and silver, these are the materials used by painters in the past; these are the materials that draw us into museums to gaze in awe at their works today. Artist/Historian Sylvana Barrett has made a career of searching out these sumptuous materials, of learning to use them through historic treatises left by the artists themselves and producing original works with them. In her Talk, Sylvana shares her knowledge of these beautiful materials, helping us experience "art" from an entirely new perspective. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
