The dangerous quicksand at Arnside beach (UK) has claimed many victims over the years. Watch how Ant & Sonia were nearly caught in it during their recent visit! In May 2017, four people nearly lost their lives after getting caught in the QUICKSAND at Arnside, minutes before the tidal bore was due to come in. They were saved by Bay Search and Rescue & the Coastguard who used swift water rescue techniques to get them safe. (Source: Lakelandradio.co.uk) In 2014, a 15-year old boy became trapped up to his knees in QUICKSAND after going to retrieve a ball. It took three rescuers from Cumbria Fire Service & the Royal National Lifeboat Institute 15 minutes to pull him free from the sand. (Source: BBC News) In 2009, a woman fell forward on to her hands in QUICKSAND at Arnside. She began to sink – but was miraculously saved, with minutes to spare - her nose was just six inches above the sand. (Source: theguardian.com) Always BE VIGILANT on the sands. It could mean the difference between LIFE & DEATH! So what is Quicksand? 'Quicksand forms in saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape, it creates a liquefied soil that loses strength and cannot support weight. Quicksand may be found on riverbanks, near lakes, in marshes, or near coastal areas.'
