Let's start out with saying that this boat has sat for two years without running. This motor started life as a 50 HP Mercury, but we upgraded to 60 HP carburetors a couple of years ago. The first thing that I did was to remove the plugs and rotate the motor by hand. The bottom cylinder was full of oil (two stroke oil from the oil injection reservoir). I cleaned up most of the oil and then spun the motor over with the starter with the plugs out. I then reinstalled the plugs and plugged in an external tank, I didn't what to trust the gas in the boat tank. As you can see, there's still some work to do but at least it ran. I knew it was going to be spectacular with all of the residual oil in the lower cylinder! Update: Later in the day we restarted the engine several times and the missing seamed to clear up. Well see once we can get it into the water and put a load on it. You got to love the old two strokes!
