SHE IS THE FIRST STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY TO BE ACCEPTED TO STUDY ABROAD IN THE NETHERLANDS PROGRAM AS AN INTERN. It's kind of nerve racking because i don't know how it's going to play out but it's a pretty prestigious company in the Netherlands so I think it will probably work out pretty well." MARY IS EXPERIENCED WHEN IT COMES TO RESEARCH. SHE HAS BEEN BEEN A LAB ASSISTANT FOR A YEAR NOW. THE FOCUS OF HER RESEARCH IS ON NUTRITION FOR PIGS. SHE TESTS SAMPLES OF FECAL MATTER AND FEED FOR THE ANIMALS. "So here is the bomb calorimeter that Mary uses everyday when she comes into lab. Basically, she puts in the sample into the machine and then it comes out and measures how much gas and heat it produces." MARY'S LOVE FOR ANIMALS CONTINUES FROM CHILDHOOD. SHE HAS ALWAYS HAD THE LOVE AND SUPPORT OF HER FAMILY. "It is her dream job ya know everything she wants for was her big goal so everything she wants she goes after and she gets it. I'm really proud of her." MARY IS PURSUING A DEGREE IN ANIMAL SCIENCES BUT SHE DOES NOT HAVE ANY LONG-TERM GOALS JUST YET. "I've worked in a vet's office before.
