Based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway, and the Broadway play by Laurence Stalling which ran for 24 performances in 1930, with Elissa Landi and Glenn Anders. Hemingway' s novel, published in 1929, was first adapted for the sceen in 1932 by Paramount Pictures, with Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes.
