Rogers Island (Rogers Rangers)

The colonial encampment, base of operations, and training grounds on which Maj Robert Rogers formed his famous ranger companies. British fortress which stood against French encroachment from the Canadas during the French and Indian War (1755-1759). This region of New York, the 12 mile stretch between Lake George and Fort Edward was made famous as the setting for James Fenimore Cooper's novel "The Last Of The Mohicans".
