My first half hour mucking about with the factory presets of the Roland JV-1010.
Found some decent piano's, warm strings and cheesy but admittedly nice acoustic guitars, with and without ambient washes. Some solid basses too. It's a really nice, compact, sturdy and cheap (I paid 115 euro's) meat-and-potatoes module for modest band needs, as long as you have something better for organ and electric piano.
With 64-voice poly, decent build-in reverb, several good other effects, and nice filters, some starry eyed kid could certainly pull off an album of Aphex Twin like ambient on just this little box.
I expect to find a couple more good sounds in it, it's quite a big batch of patches to audition, which is made somewhat faster by the build in audition sequences. It'll be a box of presets for me, since I doubt I'll bother editing it.
A good buy.
Recorded directly from its outputs, no mixing or external effects.
