Sara's Home Leaves South Bisbee

Built in 1906, Sara's home in South Bisbee once belonged to a miner and was moved many years ago by the mining company Phelps Dodge from what is now the Lavender Pit. At the deadline for the South Bisbee eviction by the multinational mining corporation Freeport McMoRan, South Bisbee resident Sara speaks of the stresses of seeing her home (and herself) jacked up and removed from their moorings. While visibly not the most affluent house in South Bisbee, this little four-room cottage is the sole home loved enough by its owner to be moved to a new location. Although she feels like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Sara points out, "As long as I'm in my house...I'm home." Sara's house was moved by Roy Dean of A-Arid House Movers from Buckeye, Arizona.
