Hello Pilates Lovers!
I made the 2nd progression of the Scoliosis Follow Along exercises! If you have been doping my previous exercise video , then you are ready for this but if this is your first time, please check out this video first before embarking on this exercise program to prevent back pain https://youtu.be/dnxoIkXWtdw. This is a a video discussing about Scoliosis , treatment plan progression utilizing Pilates, yoga and physical therapy based gentle stretching and strengthening program. I discussed the different types of Scoliosis curve, the C- curve and S curve and how to stretch each curve depending on which side is your Scoliosis. If you don't know what type and shape and side your scoliosis is, make sure you see a doctor, chiro and a physical therapist to evaluate you as well you could also try the Slump test which could be seen online on how to see the hump on your back, The best way to know is to get an X-ray of your spine and to measure the angle of your scoliosis and it is called the Cobb's Angle. However, if your Scoliosis is more than 45 degrees angle with difficulty breathing and it causes problems with your functional tasks, i recommend to see a doctor and sometimes unfortunately surgery is one of the option. These exercises will helps strengthen, improve posture and improve the flexibility of your spine and both lower extremities and will be noticeable on your stance and functional tasks if done correctly daily for at least a month. will Do a follow along program soon with the progression from these 5 gentle exercises Beginner's program.
On this current video, i discussed the different types of curves and how to perform 5 gentle stretching and strengthening program :
1. Butterfly position
2. Mermaid position
3. Mermaid position with overstretch
4. MOdified Side Plank with overhead reach
5. Cat and Camel
6. Child Pose with a turn towards the curve side
7.. Bird Dog
8. Trunk Twist
I made a video a few months ago that you could try but the audio and visual quality are not as good so pardon for my old video https://youtu.be/IekiEFd8CDA This video's title Beginner's Pilates and Yoga combo for stretching and strengthening exercises to help improve scoliosis, hopefully to help prevent surgery.
Annie uses her experience as a physical therapist and Pilates instructor to guide a Pilates specific routine with scoliosis or any asymmetrical curvature of the spine from one sided sport such as baseball, golf, bowling or for any person who just want to keep the spine healthy. It is a deep strength training of your spinal muscles, focusing each segment for strengthening, stretching tight weakness or elongated weakness opposite of the curve. IF you are a C -curve to the right, then follow the instruction to stretch to the left and strengthen it in a lengthen position and slowly stretch out the tight areas.
Please leave a comment for any specific question with this video.
Thank you and enjoy!
