शिखर धवन: "I want to be remembered as an 'Indian Warrior'"

In an exclusive interview with News24 Editor-in-Chief Anurradha Prasad on her weekly show Aamne Samne, Shikhar Dhawan said that one has to perform regularly to stay in the team. So does that mean that Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir haven't been part of the team as their performance has plummeted giving Dhawan an golden opportunity. "I am doing my job and if I have been given an opportunity, I will perform. I am doing just that," said Dhawan. "If it is their destiny, they will definitely make a comeback. I maybe there, I am not be there, but everything depends on performance." Dhawan shot to prominence with a brilliant 187 against Australia in March. Asked if the IPL spot-fixing scandal that rocked Indian cricket in May, played on his mind when he set foot of the English soil for the Champions Trophy, he said that the team was completely out of touch with India. Dhawan also lauded Dhoni for his leadership qualities, saying that the latter's temperament under crunch situations enables him to take strong decisions. "At present, he is one of the best Indian captains," he said. He, however, refused to make any comparisons with Dhoni and Virat Kohli, maintaining that both have a different approach towards game. "Dhoni is calm and Virat a bit aggressive, but their goal is the same." Dhawan, who considers cricket ground as a battlefield wants to remembered as an 'Indian warrior' by his fans. No wonder the infamous Suresh Raina versus Ravindra Jadeja spat has little value for him. "Sometimes it happens. When 11 men are playing together as a unit, such incidents are part and parcel of the game." And like a warrior, Dhawan likes to tweak his king-size moustache. "Just like a woman with long flowing hair likes to touch her locks again and again, tweaking my whiskers comes naturally to me." On his personal life, the Delhi lad jokingly recounted his first meeting with wife Ayesha on Facebook. "I used to laugh at the thought of falling in love on internet, but I ended up doing the same," he said.
