For some, singing is as natural as breathing and to others it's the midnight ride of a dark inner horse. It's exactly as was articulated in the free Singing Zone Video, a binding of muscles that were either flash frozen in place through an impacting subconscious event or slowly engrained over time by externally motivated and negatively reinforced habits. Okay enough garble about it all, I would like to share how it affected me as I wish this and more for you. It's been twenty years since I've heard about this idea, you know how our real voices are trapped inside of us. But never have I been properly instructed on how to access that voice... until I watched Per's video a few days ago. I watched it through one time in the late evening, via a Steven Memel share (tx Steve,) and then went to bed. The following morning when the house was emptied of kids and wives, er wife... lol ;) I decided to try the method in the shower. Where else would such a thing be more appropriate, right? I was in tears by the end of the song I had chosen and 4 decades or more of binding chains seemingly fell from my voice to disappear down the proverbial and literal drain. I got out of the shower and dressed, found the lyrics to the song on an iPad, grabbed my iPhone and in one take recorded myself following along to this song on Spotify. As I sang, I read the lyrics through my shades so I mess up a few times on the words because I I didn't hardly even know the song, it's just what I stumbled upon in my mind as I was thinking of a good song to use as an expression of this idea of singing free and exploring your singing with boldness. It all seemed to boil down to this theme plus I liked the style but other than that I had probably only sung it 4 or 5 times, and only in part at that, throughout my entire life. Now, when you see me get off-key in the second half of the video or sing it in a weird way it's not because my voice is cracking like it always did before, it's because suddenly I was unchained from those constraints right there as I stood in the middle of an intersection of musical choices I could clearly see for the first time ever. In such unchartered territory I didn't quite know which way to turn... it was amazing in my head and I hope it translates through on the video because if it does you'll be witnessing the Singing Zone method working on someone in real time. I've reflected on why this affected me so much and have concluded Per gave me the permission I needed, with the authority and understanding I evidently required, to boldly march into my own voice and own it. I was like a kid turned loose in a candy factory, all the sweet things I could make suddenly opened up like a sugary smorgasbord. And then, you'll see as I apply Per's idea of gaining control over your motions and body while singing. It was like a sudden awareness of my surroundings developed when the tunnel vision rapidly subsided to such a degree of clarity, I was actually able to choreograph and act out a story in real time, all while singing more soulfully and free than ever before. I think this is proof of the fact that when you really connect with the music... it leads you and all you have to do is learn to follow. I was in complete alignment and it was like WOW... So I felt I owed Per a proper thank you for making the magic happen and that led to me making this embarrassing video as a way to express my appreciation to him as well as to encourage any prospects of The Singing Zone to believe in the process. I look forward to and fear your comments... ;0)
