A short demonstration of SDR applications being used in Skywave Linux. We tune the BBC, Radio Romania International, Brother Stair, and a few mediumwave broadcasters in the USA.
Mostly, we use the OpenwebRX and WebSDR internet servers to tune live signals from several receive sites around the world. Another app, QtRadio, is a bit more sophisticated and tunes several HPSDR radios, mostly in the USA and Europe.
Just to show off how nicely Gqrx and CubicSDR work, we tune the local FM radio band and some VHF aviation signals on the attached RTL-SDR.
Being in China for this demo, you can see how their internet censorship system will sometimes break the connection (they send reset packets). With simple circumvention tools like Lantern, it is almost 100% overcome.
Shortwave listening has come a long way when all you need is good software and internet connectivity to enjoy state of the art radio performance, even from restrictive environments.
