SoMAS - Fire Island Breach from Hurricane Sandy 00005

SoMAS's Charlie Flagg captures video of the breaches on Fire Island as a result of Hurricane Sandy, courtesy of Pilot Rich Giannotti in his J3 Cub. In this video we are flying eastward just north of Fire Island starting above Smith Point Park. Clearly visible is the large wash over south of Pattersquash Island and then later at Coast Guard Cut where a small breach has opened up. That breach is in the process of being filled. Farther along is Moriches Inlet and then the significant breach just east of the rip-rapped Moriches inlet.
