Space pioneer behind Gagarin dies aged 99

Boris Chertok, one of the greatest space pioneers in history, has passed away at his home in Moscow at the age of 99. He worked tirelessly until the end - which was just two-and-a-half months from his 100th birthday. Born in 1912, Chertok took part in almost every major Soviet launch in the era of the USSR, and was the mastermind behind the world's first cosmic outpost - the MIR space station.
